Boiler and Steam Performance return as presenting sponsors of hospital gala
St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital announces that Boiler and Steam Performance, owned by Shirley and Barry Richardson, has committed to being a presenting sponsor of the hospital’s 2018 Heart and Soul Gala.
“We are thrilled that Shirley and Barry have again signed on at the highest level of gala sponsorship,” said Riezl Baker, chair of the Good Samaritan Foundation Board and the gala committee. “Their generosity to our community and their support of our hospital over many years is second to none. We are deeply grateful.”
As Greene County residents and business owners, the Richardsons said they support the gala because they appreciate the importance of having quality health care available locally.
“The hospital is vital to the health of individuals and also to the economic health of the region,” Barry said.
The Richardsons’ long association with Greene County began when they started visiting Lake Oconee in the early 1990s and fell in love with the area.
“Every weekend we would rent one of the Reynolds cottages, bring our boat and ride the weekend away looking at how beautiful the lake was,” Shirley said. “We both knew we would love living here but didn’t know how we were going to make that happen since we also had our business in Newton County.”
However, in 2000 they seized on an opportunity to build their dream home on a lakefront lot in Great Waters. And in 2002, they purchased property in the Greene County Industrial Park, built a building there for their business, and moved Boiler and Steam Performance to Greene County.
“Most of our grandchildren were born after we moved here so they have grown up having summer fun, fishing, swimming and golfing at Nana and Papa’s,” Shirley said. “We now have two daughters and son-in-laws living in the Lake Community. We love calling Greene County home.”
The opening of the new St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in 2013 raised the appeal of the community even higher, they noted.
“We plan to spend our future here and we feel it is our privilege and duty to support our community in any we can,” Shirley said. “Barry and I had the privilege to use the hospital on several occasions and we were happy with the service we received there. We have never been so close to our doctors and hospital and all this is a big plus.
“We love the fact we live in a great community with great grocery stores, great banks, great restaurants, the Ritz-Carlton, great golfing, great fishing, great boating and many other types of entertainment – without having to put up with city traffic,” she concluded.
“St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital deeply appreciates the generosity of Shirley, Barry, and all those who continue to support our mission to be a healing presence in our area,” Baker said.
